Health Insurance

Many families overlook the option of their own health insurance. Almost all health insurance companies cover the medical cost of the adopted child and many offer additional assistance with adoption costs. Check with you Health Insurance Company to see what benefits are available to you.

Corporate Assistance

Many corporations now offer adoption assistance to its employees. Contact your human resource department for information about your specific company. For help asking your employee for this benefit visit the adoption friendly workplace or read How to Lobby Your Employee for Adoption Benefits. Remind your boss that any donation made towards adoption can be used as a tax write off. Have your company contact the IRS for additional information. Military Assistance

The military offers benefits to full time active duty personnel of up to $2000 per child and $5000.00 for a sibling group. Contact your own military branch for further information.

Adoption Subsidy

Several states offer a subsidy, usually for “special needs” adoption, to help parents with ongoing treatment. Check with us to see if your adoption could qualify under the definition of “special needs” in your state.
